Project summary

Georgia faces escalating climate risks including floods, droughts and landslides, disproportionately affecting youth and communities with limited adaptive capacity. Young people aged 15-22 represent a significant share of the population, yet are largely excluded from climate decision-making and disaster risk reduction (DRR) planning processes. Existing education systems lack practical, technology-driven climate literacy curricula, leaving youth ill-equipped to understand, respond to, or innovate around environmental challenges.

The target municipalities – Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Batumi and Telavi – represent diverse geographic and socioeconomic contexts across Georgia, each facing distinct climate vulnerabilities. Barriers to youth engagement include limited access to experiential learning, lack of mentorship networks, insufficient funding for youth-led initiatives and inadequate integration of digital tools into environmental education.

This programme aligns with Georgia’s National Adaptation Plan, the Sendai Framework for DRR 2015-2030 and national youth development policies. It responds directly to the need for structured, multi-phase youth engagement in climate resilience – combining education, innovation and community action.
