Business and Technology University (BTU) successfully organised a Green Rising Camp and Hackathon in Bakuriani from 20-24 July within the framework of the project \u201cEmpowering Youth for Climate Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction through Education and Technology-Based Solutions.\u201d The five-day programme brought together 30 young participants selected from different regions of Georgia to develop innovative ideas and practical solutions addressing climate change, environmental protection, and disaster risk reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n

The programme attracted more than 300 applications, from which 30 participants were selected through a competitive, fair and transparent process. Throughout the camp, participants took part in training sessions, practical workshops, team-building activities and a hackathon, where they developed community-oriented innovative initiatives with the support of Georgian and international experts and mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n

A key highlight of the programme was the participation of experts and jury members from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden). Their involvement carried particular significance, as the project is based on the UPSHIFT methodology – a Swedish approach to youth innovation and social entrepreneurship that was introduced in Georgia for the first time through a pilot initiative implemented jointly by BTU and UNICEF.<\/p>\n\n\n

During the hackathon, participants were divided into six teams, each addressing a specific climate resilience challenge. Nemo focused on Energy Smart Communities, Greenovators developed solutions for Water Resilience, Sorty worked on Waste-Free Communities, RiverGuard addressed Environmental Data Collection and Monitoring, Greenfinity developed ideas for Flood and Disaster Prevention and Green Compromisers explored solutions for Climate-Resilient Agriculture. Supported by mentors and experts throughout the process, each team designed innovative projects aimed at delivering practical and sustainable solutions to climate-related challenges at the local level.<\/p>\n\n\n

Over the course of the five-day programme, participants strengthened their knowledge and skills in climate change, environmental protection, disaster risk reduction (DRR), green skills, and social innovation. During the final stage of the hackathon, each team presented its project to an expert jury, which evaluated the proposals based on their level of innovation, implementation potential and expected social impact.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Green Camp and Hackathon represents a significant milestone of the project. Following the programme, participants will continue refining and implementing their initiatives within their local communities, contributing to stronger youth engagement in climate action, environmental protection, and disaster risk reduction while creating sustainable, long-term impact across different regions of Georgia.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
